Mayhem Mindset with Jim Hensel // BE Where Your Feet Are

In the Mayhem Mindset Process, the idea of BEing present is one of the most important mindset tools. If you forget about everything else we talk about through the Mayhem Mindset Process and get good at using this one tool, it will change your life for the better immediately. BEing present gives you the opportunity to think more and feel less so you can connect to what you believe as the source of energy you need to come forward.

Jake was going through a period of reorganization in his life. He had began to focus on growing as a person as he started to think about what he wanted to do next in his life. It was vital for him not to get overwhelmed by all the changes he felt he needed to make. I reminded Jake to triage the adversity he was facing. To slow down, get present, and deal with what was right in front of him, and that advice goes for you too.

You can handle everything you must deal with today. You are capable of handling everything going on in your life in the present moment. If you can stay present, not worry about the past, and do not spend too much time and emotion lost in imagination about the future, you can do what you need to do today.

BEing present is how to think, or the mindset tool. Next, you have to connect that tool to what to think, or a value. Core values are the filter we use or the language for our lives that is necessary to practically apply how to think to what we want to do.

In this conversation/example with Jake, he connected his core value of FIGHT to BEing present. He started with the commitment to exercise every day after work. To be gritty and just FIGHT for getting a little bit better each day, and then let that begin to translate that into other areas of his life. He recognized, defined, and called out the negative emotion causing him the most trouble. For Jake, the feeling that he wasn’t “good enough” was what he felt. Jack acknowledged he felt that way, but he believed that emotion was a lie; he did not validate it. Jake chose to intentionally put that emotion in neural for the duration of his daily workout.

Jake generated the energy and momentum needed for the workout because he believed he could successfully FIGHT for himself for the workout duration. He defined success as the continuous and unbroken attitude of FIGHT while he trained. All of his thoughts became focused only on the task and choosing the attitude of FIGHT over and over while he worked out. Jake reminded himself that there would always be room to grow; he wasn’t looking for a destination or to arrive but that he was always designed to be moving forward, always fighting for his personal growth mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Where can you apply the mindset tool of BEing present in your life? What value will you rely on to see you through? Remember, scale this. Pick something in your life where you can be successful and string together 30 days of BEing present and living out your chosen value in an intentional way. As you experience success, scale up to the next important place in your life and repeat the process. S&H!

Keep Coming Forward
